Here are some frequently asked questions about taking lessons
If the question you need an answer to is not here then please use the response form or mail us and we will reply immediately
How long is each lesson?......Our lessons are normally double ones of two hours each. (But, see the next question). Over a full course of lessons two hours at a time will normally reduce the number of hours taken.
Also getting used to driving for two hours at a time will make it easier when you take your test.
Can I have just one hour at a time? ...... Your instructor will advise you on the pros and cons of the various options and the rate of progress that you can normally expect from each. To begin with you would normally find that a two hour lesson will allow you to achieve more, particularly if you live in a rural situation
If you live in a rural area you will find that you will be covering a broader range of driving conditions more frequently as you drive into the urban areas for your practice in town and city.
Routes in and out will be varied to give you as much general practice as possible.
Do I have to have one lesson each week?.. The frequency of lessons will suit your needs and finances. Provided that there is continuity of instruction and the lessons are regular, you will progress normally towards the Test at whatever lesson frequency you decide upon.
Can I do an Intensive Course.?....Yes you can. Intensive courses need some planning so that everything fits in at the right time and there are no big gaps between finishing the course and taking the test.
We can do all the planning for you, including booking tests at the appropriate times.
First of all you need to take the Theory Test, because until you have passed that we cannot book your Practical Test.
In discussion with you we then look at a possible date for the Practical Test leaving a space of at least two weeks leading up to it. (Test waiting times are very random and can vary between 6 weeks and 16 weeks but the occasional random test becomes available earlier)
Once the Test is booked we work out with you how many lessons you will need and then work backwards from the Test Date to see when you should start.
What about my Theory test? .........You can try your hand at some practice Theory Multiple Choice questions by clicking here. When the DSA page loads, register using the form shown and then have a go at the FREE tests
How do I know when I am ready for my practical Test.?..... Your Instructor will be constantly monitoring your progress and will tell you when you have reached the required standard in each subject.
You will be given a Log Book which will record your progress lesson by lesson and subject by subject.
The Test will have been booked as soon as the Theory Test is passed.
The plan of lessons that the Instructor will have discussed with you at the start of your course should bring you up to standard within the plan.
Everyone progresses at a different rate and some people "click" early in the course, others may not "click" until just after the Mock Test.
This is usually two weeks before the test. If there is a problem at this stage (which is very rare) then the test can be postponed in time to avoid losing the fee and to allow for further practice.
How can I tell how well I am progressing.?........If you feel that you have learned something each lesson and that you are feeling more positive and confident each time you go out with your Instructor then you are progressing well.
The majority of your lessons should have a positive learning curve, be enjoyable and tiring.
Not every lesson will be one where you are satisfied with how you are doing and sometimes you will feel that everything you do is worse than it was before.
This feeling is perfectly normal and should not persist beyond that lesson.
If it does then you should talk to the Instructor, if he hasn't already spotted it, and he will find the cause and put it right for you.
You should never worry about making mistakes. Obviously you will try to avoid making them but, if you do make them, you can learn from them!
